The First Guardian of the Repo

Published on July 13, 2026

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼

A team grows. So do the commits. Who makes sure nobody breaks what everyone built?

In the project I currently work on, we have several devs in parallel. From the start I implemented 𝗚𝗶𝘁𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 as guardians of the main branches. No code reaches 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 without passing through that filter first 🔥

The logic is simple: the workflow triggers on every 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁, runs the defined checks (build, tests, lint) and if anything fails 🚫 the merge is blocked. Doesn't matter if you're junior or senior — the repo is the repo.

The best part 💪: it scales without friction. 2 devs? 10 devs? The planned structure stays intact because it doesn't depend on anyone remembering the rules. It depends on the workflow.

A guardian that never tires, never forgets, and never has bad days 😅

Do you have active workflows in your repos or do you still rely on manual review?

Keep flying, Champions! ✈️
